Nestled along the Mekong River, Vientiane stands as a testament to Laos’ enduring spirit and cultural depth. Unlike the bustling capitals of its neighbors, Vientiane’s charm lies in its laid-back atmosphere. Let's find out what we can do there!
Or the Victory Gate, honoring those who fought for Lao Independence
it offers not just a historical monument but a panoramic view of the city from its summit. Climbing its stairs for roughly 5,000 LAK (a quarter), you’re treated to an amazing view of the sunset.
Surrounding the victory gate is Patuxai Park, where locals love to take a stroll. There’s a fountain in front of the gate that turns on with music at certain times of the day as well.
One of the best restaurants in the city with an impeccable vintage air
Even though it’s not one of the hole-in-the-wall kind of places like what I’d usually recommend to travelers, I will keep raving about this restaurant forever.
Get treated to the the best food Laos has to offer while enjoying fantastic service here. I highly recommend the Crying Tiger, Luang Prabang Papaya Salad, and a Laab.
Officially the Vientiane Museum of Contemporary Arts
When they say contemporary arts, 90% of said “Contemporary Arts” are ornately, insanely detailed pieces of carved wood. We’re talking full-bodied goddess statues carved out of entire tree trunks and more. You don't want to miss out on this one!
Apart from carved wood, you will find marvelous pieces of paintings as well.
