“Two Homes” Necklace Review: Perfect Gift for Travelers
It’s hard enough buying gifts, but finding one for someone who lives out of a suitcase? That’s a whole new level of overthinking. But what if I told you that I’ve found the perfect gift for travelers that works?
It’s a necklace I had bought for myself for reaching a big milestone in my blogging career, something I wanted to help keep home closer to me, as someone who always travels. As soon as I saw it with my own eyes, I knew it was the perfect gift for any world-traveling friend you have.
Whether she’s just returned from her dream trip or is planning the next one, this is the meaningful gift that should remind her why she travels.
Looking for the best travel gifts for women (and men) that feel meaningful, not mass-produced? You’re in the right place!
Note: I originally published this post in March of 2024. I’ve recently updated it to ensure the best reading experience for you.
Why This Necklace Is The Perfect Travel Gift
What you first need to understand is the paradox of traveling. While the travel bug gets one out of their house (or country) more often than most people, it also increases the value of their home.
In fact, the more one travels, the more people they meet, the more friends they make, and the more goodbyes they go through. This is when having the comfort of home, or a piece of it, with them could make a huge difference.

What Is The “Two Homes” Necklace?
Last week, I finally received the necklace I had ordered from Exchange Life. It was perfect timing because I’d been a digital nomad for exactly two years the month before… traveling everywhere, always getting attached, and always saying goodbye.
I was craving a piece of home to have with me. It was a complicated problem for two reasons.
One, having traveled a lot, I could call more than one place my home. Two, I did have pieces of home, but I wanted something more meaningful… Something that could consolidate the concept of “home” while providing me a sense of comfort wherever I go.
What Makes It Special (Especially for Cultural Travelers)
Getting to Carry a Piece of Home with You
This is the selling point of the collection, especially if your friend is an immigrant. But even if not, travelers always end up connecting deeply with more than just their home country anyway!
Here’s the funny thing about the concept of home: It changes the more you travel. The more places you’ve seen, the more cultures you’ve gotten to know, the more you realize that “home” doesn’t always have to be where you live.
It only has to be wherever your heart feels most at ease.
So, to make your gift more meaningful, consider this unconventional meaning of home when choosing this as a gift for your traveler friend!
Variety of Designs
There are 4 very distinct pieces of jewelry in the Two Homes Collection. This gives you more options to match your friend’s personality. There’s the necklace that I have, and 2 distinct bracelets with the round pendant, and there’s also a stylish dogtag necklace.
All designs are available in at least two colors, silver and gold. Some are available in rose gold as well.
My Story with “Two Homes”
Seeing it on the screen while ordering the necklace was NOT the same as seeing it in person when opening the package. Engraved on the round sterling silver pendant were the two countries closest to my heart, Thailand and South Korea, with two hearts on each and a thread linking them.
I was also surprisingly so tiny! I was prepared to wear a bigger pendant, but it came in the perfect size while maintaining amazing detail!

Stamping on That Extra Identity
And on the back of the pendant was a travel-related quote I had chosen for myself.
“Let your home be your mast and not your anchor.”
Khalil Gibran
For those who’ve been with me for a while, it’s no secret that I didn’t grow up on great terms with my identity as a Thai person. For over 2 decades of my life, all I wanted to do was run away from Thailand and feel like my face, the color of my skin, and the language I spoke were holding me back from belonging.
Over the years, I was able to heal my relationship with my first home and embrace its culture. I now carry it proudly with me and use it as a lens that helps me see how I fit into our world.
This encourages me to travel and discover more about other cultures. Most importantly, it gave me a purpose when I became a blogger; to share its beauty with other people.
Customizing the Necklace for Your Loved One
Here are a few ways you can choose the two homes for your world-traveling gift receiver.
- Birthplace + Current city (If they’ve moved)
- First country visited + Most meaningful Trip
- Birthplace + Favorite Country
Choosing the Right Quote
As lovely as “Home is where the heart is” sounds, it’s been used one too many times in my opinion. Here are some of the more unique home and travel quotes for starters.
- “Home is where our story begins.”
- “Feeling sad to leave doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go.”
- “Home is not a place, it’s a feeling.”
- “Wherever you go becomes a part of you somehow.”
- “Home is where you feel at home and are treated well.”
- “Home is where one starts from.”
There are so many more of these all over the internet, taken from the greatest books and poems ever written.
Whatever quote you end up putting on the back of the pendant will seal the meaning of your gift. You know them best. Make sure it touches their soul!

Where to Buy the “Two Homes” Necklace
This necklace, along with a few other amazing designs like the dog tag necklace and bracelets, is available on Exchange Life. Each design is available in silver, gold, and sometimes rose gold for certain designs.
Final Thoughts
As a Thai person living in the US, selecting Thailand and South Korea (neither of which I plan to live in permanently) as the two homes on my necklace completely broke the rules.
But if that could shift anyone’s paradigm about what home means, then I consider my job done for today.
The world is becoming more and more unconventional thanks to globalization and traveling. I hope we can evolve to be just as unconventional in the way we interact with it.
What do you think? Does home only mean a place you live in, or does it mean something different, too?
FAQ: Gift Ideas for Travelers
-
What are some other gift ideas for travelers?
While a necklace like this two homes one wouldn’t hurt, you can never go wrong with practical gifts either! Consider a quality neck pillow for their next long flight, or a travel journal that helps them plan their next epic trip to Patagonia.
-
What is the best gift for someone going abroad?
Moving abroad can be a very intense experience for the first couple of months (sometimes years). I think a travel journal would be a thoughtful choice to help them process their experiences and emotions. It would be extra lovely if the journal is personalized to remind them of home or comfort.
-
How else can I personalize a travel-themed necklace to make it special?
Consider engraving it with coordinates of a favorite place, a significant date, or initials. Adding charms that represent different aspects of the recipient’s travels, like landmarks, national animals, or symbols, is a lovely idea as well. And it can one day turn into a collection!
